CDBrite CU Copper Cleaner

Immersion Brightener for Copper Alloys

CDBrite CU is an acidic product that cleans light to moderate oils from the surface of brass and other copper alloys. It also brightens the metal and removes light or heavy tarnish.

CDBrite CU is an immersion, or a wipe-on product. When used as a wipe on product, an even contact of the product with the surface of the metal must be achieved to have an even brightening effect. CDBrite CU should not be used as a spray material.

CDBrite also removes rust and corrosion from steel and aluminum alloys. However, do not process steel and aluminum in the same tanks that process copper alloys.

There is a wide variety of copper alloys available. Always test exotic alloys prior to processing. Some alloys will discolor in acidic brighteners.

Use Conditions

Use CDBrite CU at 10 to 25 gallons per 100 gallons of solution. Although usually used at room temperature, under certain conditions it may be heated to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Parts are immersed from 1-10 minutes depending on concentration and temperature.

Stainless or polypropylene tanks are preferred. Steel tanks should not be used. Heating coils should be acid resistant.

CDBrite CU should be followed by a rinse and an optional copper corrosion preventative.  Extended storage should always be followed by a copper corrosion preventative.

Advantages

CDBrite CU is a simple to use copper alloy brightener. It works very quickly. It may be used at room temperature.

Although it is recommended that it be followed by a corrosion protective product, it will not flash tarnish like some other acidic products.  Parts may be followed by subsequent painting or plating.

Disposal And Safety

Follow all local discharge regulations before putting this product down a drain. CDBrite is a biodegradable acidic product. However, it generally needs treatment prior to any type of discharge. Use of this product can create metal levels in excess of discharge limits. In addition, sludge created by the product may contain heavy metals.

This is an acidic material corrosive to skin and metal surfaces. When using this product, please follow the recommendations on the Safety Data Sheet.
